As I made my way back from a relaxing weekend in the countryside, listening to my iPod on shuffle I couldn’t decide what type of music I was in the mood to listen to. What was my journey soundtrack?
I shan’t embarrass myself by revealing my final selection, but it made me wonder what kind of soundtrack my life would have? Could have? Everyone has had that moment walking down the street listening to a great song and feeling like it was made for that moment. But what if every moment was like that? What would our life soundtrack sound like?
I would hope that mine contained lots of Jack Johnson – my upbeat walking about town music of choice – but I fear it would contain far too much drama and tension: the Jaws theme for example. That being said the soundtrack to any one of Hitchcock’s thriller would have summed up last week quite nicely.
But maybe we should look at it the other way around? Maybe tomorrow I will try to select a song that I want to represent my day and see how that goes. Music has a way of making us more aware of what’s going on in our lives – the song on the radio that makes you unexpectedly misty eyed or the up-tempo music that comes on just at the right time, spurring you on in a tough situation. What if deciding in advance what song we need to get us through the day would work just as well.
In that case maybe I’ll choose something from a Disney movie; those films always have a way of making people feel better. Hakuna Matata should do the trick. Watch this space.
